My Story in Four Chapters
How a student who loved maths became a tutor who plans every lesson around the child in front of him.
It Started With Helping My Friends
At college, I was the friend who loved maths. Lots of my friends found it hard, so I started helping them: before tests, after lessons, whenever they were stuck on a question like this one.
Seeing that "ohh, so that's how it works!" moment on a friend's face is what first made me want to teach.
Then Local Students Started Asking
Word spread, and soon students in my area were asking for help too. I began teaching them one-to-one at home, around the family table, with parents close by.
That's where I learnt how much difference patient, personal teaching makes, and that every student needs things explained in their own way.
Teaching Online at Al-Fajr Homeschool
Next, I joined Al-Fajr Homeschool, an online home-education school. I taught maths to groups, and one-to-one for students who needed more personal support. I also:
- Designed full course plans and lesson plans
- Set homework and wrote quizzes
- Prepared final exams
One-to-One Online, From Year 4 to Year 13
Since 2023 I've taught students across the UK, from KS3 and GCSE to A Level and Further Maths, as well as university students, on every major exam board. In total, I've now taught more than 100 students.
Today I teach one-to-one only, with a written plan for every student. And the best part of my job hasn't changed: a parent telling me their child is improving, and has actually started to like maths.
