Frequently Asked Questions

Everything parents usually ask before booking. If your question isn't here, just send me a message.

Which Exam Boards Do You Teach?

AQA, Edexcel (Pearson), OCR, Cambridge and WJEC Eduqas. I teach KS2 (Years 4–6), KS3 (Years 7–9), GCSE, IGCSE (International GCSE) and A Level, as well as Functional Skills. Not sure which board your child is on? Ask the school, or check the front of a past exam paper.

Do You Offer Science Tuition?

Yes. Zainab, a Doctor of Pharmacy with 16 years of tutoring experience, teaches one-to-one online science: KS3 science (Years 6 to 9), GCSE and IGCSE Biology, Chemistry, Physics and Combined Science, and A Level Biology, Chemistry and Physics. See the science courses.

Does My Child Get Homework Between Lessons?

Yes. Students get a short set of practice, about 20 to 30 minutes a day, written for them and linked to what we are learning. It includes a worked example and hints, and we go through it together at the next lesson. See example pages.

Do You Teach Primary School Children?

Yes. I teach maths to pupils from Year 4 upwards, with shorter, friendlier lessons for younger children. See KS2 Maths.

How Do Online Lessons Work?

Lessons take place on Google Meet or Zoom, whichever suits you. Your child just needs a laptop or tablet with a microphone and a quiet place to work.

What Happens in the Free 90-Minute Lesson?

I find out what your child is studying, check which topics are secure and which need work, and we do some real maths together so you can see how I teach. There's no obligation to continue.

Do You Write a Plan for Every Student?

Yes. Every student, from KS3 to A Level, gets a written plan with their topics, checkpoint tests and key dates. You can see two examples on the Personal Plans page.

How Will I Know How My Child Is Doing?

You'll receive a written progress update every six weeks, plus results from checkpoint tests and past papers. You can also message me at any time.

How and When Do I Pay?

Nothing is paid upfront. At the end of each month I send one invoice for the lessons that have taken place, and you pay by bank transfer.

Is There a Contract or Minimum Commitment?

No. There are no packages or contracts. Lessons continue for as long as they're helping your child.

What Is Your Cancellation Policy?

Lessons can be cancelled or moved free of charge with at least 24 hours' notice. Cancellations with less notice are charged at half the fee, and missed lessons without notice are charged in full. Genuine emergencies are always handled fairly. See the full lesson policy.

How Long Are Lessons?

Lessons are usually 90 minutes, which I recommend for maths: there's time to recap, learn a new topic properly and practise exam-style questions without rushing. If 60 minutes suits your child better, we can plan around that.

When Are Lessons Available?

Send me a message and I'll share the times I currently have available. Lessons are arranged around the school day.

Do You Have a DBS Check?

A DBS check is the UK's criminal record check. I hold an official police clearance certificate, which I'm happy to share with parents on request. You're also welcome to sit in on any lesson. You can read more on the Safeguarding page.

Can I Sit In on Lessons?

Of course. Parents are welcome to sit in on any lesson, including the free first one.
