How It Usually Goes

"I Haven't Done Maths Since School"

This is how most Functional Skills learners begin. Often an adult, often needing Level 2 for an apprenticeship or a course, and often a little embarrassed to be asking for help with maths at all.

There's nothing to be embarrassed about. The first few lessons usually focus on the basics that were never quite explained properly the first time: percentages, fractions and reading questions carefully.

Once those click, confidence comes back surprisingly quickly. Many learners find they were far better at maths than school ever made them feel.

Is Level 2 the Same as a GCSE?

Level 2 Functional Skills Maths is widely accepted in place of a GCSE Grade 4 for apprenticeships, many jobs and some courses. Do check what your employer or course asks for.
